Stunt teams travel the world and put on breath-taking shows which appear to be full of impossible moves and physics-defying tricks, all in the name of fun and entertainment. The business of stunt performing is as down-to-earth as any, though, and every single one of those stunt riders started somewhere as some wet-behind-the-ears newbie just learning to ride on two wheels. This means, for just about any rider, stunting can become a way of life – or just a part-time, money-making hobby – by simply learning to do it right. One good place to start is the Starboyz “Make Wheeliez” stunt riding school, where any interested student can learn how to do the incredible with a motorcycle.

Starboyz is well-known within the motorcycle stunt world and through the many YouTube videos which have been spread through the vast ‘inter-verse’ of the Internet. This notoriety brought along the opportunity to pass down their skills to others, and so began the practice of offering classes for select times in their home state of Ohio back in 2001. The ultimate offshoot of this became the Make Wheeliez school, which has now served over 550 students in its decade of operation. Starboyz has taught many committed riders to perform stunts, and graduates many with skills good enough to make their own videos – on a closed course, without doubt – once they have done the requisite practice and preparation, of course.

Starboyz will, at the very least, provide a foundation for extreme riding and motorcycle stunting from which a student may build whichever skills are considered important and necessary. The Make Wheeliez school takes place over one day and the students learn on the school’s bikes, which are already prepped for the work and take away the worry of crashing a prized personal motorbike. Make Wheeliez is also all held within the bounds of a closed track with professional instructors who can guide a rider no matter the experience level of the instructed – and in almost perfect safety.

Starboyz divides their Make Wheeliez classes between two types: beginner and private lessons. The beginner course is designed to impart the basics plus; the plus depends on what the student needs and is capable of and so is different for everyone. Make Wheeliez will get him or her up on one wheel, most certainly, and will impart basics such as throttle control, fine balance, clutch control, body position and even the properties of the stunt motorcycle. This level is divided between an early classroom section and hours of actual on-bike instruction and practice and it only has six students per class allowing for an in-depth education for every participant. For this class, Starboyz only requires US$500 and that includes use of the bike, but the rider must bring personal protective gear to be taught.

The succeeding Make Wheeliez level which Starboyz conducts is the private lesson. This is a one-on-one class which caters directly to the individual student’s needs and skill level. Rental bikes are available, but it is best for the rider to bring a personal machine on which to learn, and which should be prepared for the task.
